Katie's career in public health began when she was a tobacco prevention specialist for Lewis and Clark County in Helena, where she led community-based prevention and education efforts to reduce youth and adult tobacco use.  Katie then taught Health Sciences and Public Health at Carroll College for five years.  She also served as the advisor for the pre-physical therapy and pre-physician assistant track students during her time at Carroll.  Prior to starting at the University of Montana, Katie started a public health consulting business that partnered with Montana DPHHS to support teen behavior risk prevention initiatives, including suicide prevention, substance abuse, and other youth risk behaviors. Through her consulting business, Katie worked closely with the 12 major sectors involved in prevention work in communities across Montana.  Her passion is the integration of real-world public health applications into academic instruction, bridging theory, policy, research, and community-level practice.

In her spare time, Katie enjoyes spending time with her husband and their two kids, as well as their dog!  You can catch her hiking, shooting hoops, cooking, reading, painting, and cheering on the Griz with her family.
